Study Develops Numerical Model for Marine Oil Snow Aggregate Formation and Sinking

Posted on November 13, 2018
Researchers developed the first detailed numerical model for predicting the conditions under which marine oil snow aggregates form and the amount of oil they transport to the ocean floor.

Study Finds Clay Nanotubes Yield More Efficient Oil-Water Emulsions than Spherical Particles

Posted on November 15, 2017
Researchers assessed various structures of clay nanotubes or halloysites, which are being studied for their potential in oil spill emulsification. They tested the nanotubes to identify which structures generated the most stable emulsions and smallest oil droplets and if catalytic reactions improved at the oil-water interface.

Posted on November 16, 2016
Hydrocarbons associated with oil spills can have harmful effects on humans and organisms, yet little is known about the specific compounds that contribute to toxicity.

RECOVER Tuesday Tool Profile Features Snap Swivels
When smaller satellite vessels hook a mahi-mahi, the R/V Walton Smith team casts over a snap swivel so that the line can be transferred from the rod to the main vessel. After the line has been successfully transferred, the team can then reel the fish in and begin the assessment and tagging process.
